Hardloopverhalen Uit Nederland en de Rest Van De Wereld.
Inside back cover of Mystical Miles, the Netherland’s most esteemed running periodical. Editie 11.
'Het is geen religie zoals sommigen ons willen doen geloven. Hardlopen is een houding, over jezelf, over anderen, over de omgeving, die je omringt.'
– Jack D, Welch
I don’t remember ever saying that. Hardlopen is such a good word, too.
And I guess I could guess. Think about it – how many quotable things have I said?
Pressed for time, I went to Google Translate.
“It’s not a religion, as some would have us believe. Running is an attitude—about yourself, about others, and about the environment that surrounds you.”
Now, that right there, that sounds more like me.
My name is also on the front cover in the tiniest little print. Way down at the bottom.
But I imagine Mystical Miles is like being on the cover of the Rolling Stone of Dutch sports journalism. And I am not too proud for your smaller fonts.
Still get a kick out of seeing my name in print, in any periodical – English or otherwise – that ain’t the police blotter. Or the obits.
Probably kill myself anyway trying to come up with a second publishable hardlopen quote.
Hardloopen for you distance people. I’ve seen it spelled both ways.
Bukowski was big in Europe before he caught on in the United States.
Something to think about.
Wat als we verdwalen?
