This guy was awesome. He was a City Champ, Walk-on, Big Ten Champ, Military Veteran, based in Quantico at one point, ran with Pre, was part of the ’70s Oregon running scene and qualified for the Olympics. What a great life.
The reality is that despite whatever emotions we may have for the mountains and their environment, they are in fact unfeeling objects and they follow the natural rules of physics which are not always benevolent toward living creatures, great or small.
